About Me

Smiling woman sitting on a bench outdoors with a happy German Shepherd dog.

Hi! I'm Lauren. Below are my 3 dogs Charlie, Marllow, and Lady.

From a young age, I've owned and loved dogs. I remember sitting on my front porch reading the book, "How to Talk to Your Dog," that I had gotten from an elementary school book fair. When I finally taught my German Shepherd at the time the command, "Paw," I was ecstatic. I couldn't wait to teach him more. So I did. I set up an agility course in my backyard (made out of broomsticks and trashcans!), and we were off to the agility races. To me, it was fun and natural. I knew in my heart I wanted to train because there was nothing better in life than building a bond with your dog.

Over the years, I've volunteered at animal shelters, worked in dog boarding facilities, and ran dog socialization groups. Eventually, I found my way into K9 training through Dogs Finding Dogs. I graduated the program with my dog Marllow and became a K9 Handler who helps locate and bring home lost pets. Currently, I assist in the training of the DFD tracking K9s.

I opened up Second Chance Dog Training because I want to help both dogs and their humans overcome common dog behavior issues. Often, dogs are sent back to shelters due to these issues, or they are adopted and their owners don't understand why they seem like a totally different dog after a couple of months. Many struggle with bad habits like jumping on guests or pulling on the leash so hard they’re almost impossible to walk. Pet parents also sometimes find it challenging to communicate and understand their dogs (believe me, I've been there myself). So I'm here to help. I'm here to show you how to communicate with your dog effectively, motivate your dog to engage in the behaviors you want to see, and replace the "bad" behaviors with more appropriate ones. I'm dedicated to assisting all the dogs (and humans!) who need a little extra encouragement. I'm here to tell you not to give up, and to give yourself and your dog a Second Chance.
